When I knew I were in Love
You were together
for so long when and how exactly, did you know you were in love with him?
One fine day, when
everything seemed normal, the birds chirped early morning in their usual squeaky
voices, the sun rose at the usual time, me and baba had the morning tea together
which my lovely aai prepared for us. I took out my usual dress to wear for work
that day. In the morning we used to meet at the Worli bus stand, as we used to
commute to our workplaces together.
In that rather normal
day, when I looked at him coming from the other side of the road, things
changed spectacularly inside of me, he looked his usual but my heart just
stopped beating for a brief period of time, the world slowed down, I was
sweating much more than the usual, even growing reasonably nervous around him.
There was an
absolute rush of emotions, and I hardly knew how to handle them all, but in my
own way, I was trying to soak it all in, I didn’t know if I was getting any
success in doing so, in those moments I felt like being part of something
bigger, something deeper, something more intimate, something divine and intangible.
After a few
moments of him gazing at me with a warm smile, offering me his handkerchief he
said, “You’re sweating a lot today, maybe we should take a cab to work today” I
could just nod in approval for words were few in those moments. It was a good
proposal indeed, I didn’t want to spend those precious moments surrounded by
strangers at a fair distance from him in an overflowing BMC bus, I would much
rather be with him, sitting right beside in an Uber Go, trying to take it all in.
I wiped my face
with the handkerchief, but I wouldn’t let go of it, I kept it in my pocket and
that was my way of trying to freeze those moments, to not let them go, in those
moments everything made sense and, yet nothing did, and that’s ladies and
gentlemen how I knew I were in love.
The End
